Bayern confirm Makaay move

BAYERN MUNICH vice-president Karl Heinz Rummenigge has announced that his club have made an offer to Deportivo La Coruna for Dutch striker Roy Makaay.

Rummenigge confirmed that Die Bundesliga champions have put forward an offer to Depor two days after the conclusion of La Liga season, with a move for Makaay said to be worth around ‚é¼15 million.

"We have made contact with Deportivo to hand over a firm offer (for Roy Makaay) and we are now expecting an answer," Rummenigge told the Spanish media.

"It now depends on what Deportivo will do, but Makaay wants to come to us and play for Bayern."

The player's agent Rob Jansen has admitted that the hit-man would welcome a move to Bayern, despite Makaay's previous admissions that he would prefer a move to England or another club in Spain.

Rummenigge was not concerned with a release clause in Makaay's contract that could see any potential buyer pay ‚é¼60 million (£40 million) for the services of the Dutchman, stating the clause was drawn up before the recent collapse of the transfer market.

"That clause was written up three seasons ago, when clubs paid very high figures of money for players, but the present football environment is now completely different and teams can no longer spend so much money to match those kind of figures," added Rummenigge.

"We have made a financial offering which is inside our availability and capacity and it now depends on Deportivo to see if we can do business."

The Bayern vice-president has already mentioned some alternatives, should the Bavarian giants fail with their bid to lure Makaay.

"We have other alternatives with the option of Carlos Tevez from Boca Juniors but all the same the acquisition of Makaay will be very complicated to complete."

It remains to be seen if Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro will deal with Bayern for Makaay, who still has two years remaining on his contract at the Riazor.
