Keegan adds Foe tributes

KEVIN KEEGAN has paid his own personal tribute to Marc-Vivien Foe following the Cameroon international's tragic death on Thursday.

The Manchester City boss was understandably grief-stricken after hearing the sad news from France, where Foe was representing his country in the Confederations Cup.

City have decided to retire the number 23 shirt in memory of their former midfielder.

The 28-year-old played at Maine Road during City's last-ever campaign at the ground, scoring the club's final goal at the stadium, and, although his loan deal expired, it is clear he made a huge impact on Keegan.

"Marc was not only a special person but a very special person," stated the former England boss.

"We will all miss his smile and his personality.

"Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, and he was the ultimate professional, loved by everyone in the dressing room and the boardroom.

"Our hearts go out to Marco's young family and Manchester City will do all we can for them at this terrible time.

"We are all distraught, especially Arthur Cox, who loved Marco," he told City's official website.

"I felt it was a privilege to work with him for the past year and we were still in the process of trying to negotiate a deal that would have made him a City player.

"I will never forget the day I blasted him for not looking me in the eye, when I was telling him something, and the knock on the door that followed a few minutes later, when he informed me that, where he came from, if you respected someone, you didn't look them in the eye!

"He had the ability to make us all smile, and feel better.

"We will miss him."

Meanwhile, Fifa have confirmed they are considering a proposal to rename the Confederations Cup after Foe as a way of honouring his memory.
