O's take ex-United star on trial

Mooniaruck, who recently played for England Under-20's in the Toulon tournament, has played a part in the Red Devils Under-19's and reserves in recent seasons, after he was embroiled in a poaching row three seasons ago as he left Norwich City for the Old Trafford club.

The 19-year-old will spend the next fortnight training at Brisbane Road after being released by United.

Mooniaruck has been training with a number of First Division clubs since leaving United towards the end of last season.

"He's a talented young player who has learned his trade at the highest level," Orient boss Paul Brush told the club's official website.

"He was based in Bishops Stortford before moving north so its not a problem for him to come back down south and he'll spend the next couple of weeks training with us.

"He did very well in his first session and we'll see how he goes from here-he's obviously a very capable lad."

Orient have also handed trials to Robert Kember, Millwall defender Robert Booth, Crystal Palace midfielder David Hunt, Daniel Robinson and Ram Marwa.

Meanwhile, Brush has told former Leeds United player Tom Newey that he must make up his mind by the end of this week after been offered a deal to sign for The O's.

The 20-year-old left-sided player, released by Leeds United last month, played seven times for Cambridge United during a loan spell last in February and March, before making the same amount of appearances for Darlington towards the end of the season.

At Darlington, Newey impressed Brush when he scored his first goal in senior football.

"He's fast and skilful and he has impressed me both when we played Darlington and in videos I've seen of him, Brush said.

"We made him an official offer and we want an answer by Friday.

"He can play at wing-back or on the left-wing and I think he could be a very dangerous player next season.

"But we're very hopeful he'll like what we've offered him and want to sign for us either way, we'll know by the end of the week."

Darlington offered him a permanent deal following his loan spell but Newey turned them down, having also gained interest from clubs in the Second Division as well.
