Valdano hits back at Hoeness

REAL MADRID'S sporting director Jorge Valdano has hit back at Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness following his attack concerning the signing of David Beckham.

Hoeness ridiculed Real's capture of the England captain, describing the whole transfer saga as a 'circus'.

Valdano has now aimed a swipe at Hoeness and admitted he was surprised by the comments of the German.

"Hoeness seems to be the one in charge at Bayern to talk about trivialities," said Valdano.

"In any case where in Germany they consider Real Madrid as a unit of measurement, we are calm.

"I was certainly surprised (by the comments) mainly given the seriousness of a club which Hoeness represents.

"In spite of the trivial things that have been said about our club, our relations with Bayern will continue to be good in all senses and proof of this is that we wish and hope that this year they do not fall at the first stage of the Champions League."
