Jags' U-turn to sign Thomson

PARTICK THISTLE have performed a U-turn and snapped up Queens Park Rangers striker Andy Thomson on a free transfer.

The Jags' swoop for the 32-year-old appeared to collapse earlier this week due to a wrangle over personal terms.

But the SPL side have resurrected the deal and lured Thomson back to Scotland after a nine-year exile.

Thomson still had one year remaining on his contract at Loftus Road but has plumped for top-flight football in Scotland.

Jags manager Gerry Collins is confident that Thomson will be able to continue his trend of scoring on a regular basis, despite it being his debut season in a top division.

"I am delighted to get hold of Andy as I feel he will be a very important player for us in the coming season," said Collins.

"He is a penalty box striker who knows the way to goal and getting him takes a huge weight off my mind as I now feel that I have what I require for the striker positions.

"He will join up with us on Monday and he is sure to fit in well with a dressing room that is already buzzing."
