Ancona unveil new boss

ANCONA have finally unveiled their new coach for the coming season, as Leonardo Menichini takes charge of the Serie A newcomers.

Club president Ermanno Pieroni had wanted to install experienced coach Carlo Mazzone (pictured) at the helm, but this was not possible after fans reacted badly to the proposed move.

Former Brescia boss Mazzone had to turn down the offer, and Pieroni has now turned his attentions to his assistant at Brescia.

Pieroni has been number two to Mazzone for a decade and Ancona hope he will bring some of his ideas to the club.

The appointment finally ends the saga of who will lead the club in the Italian top-flight next season.

Former Reggina manager Luigi De Canio was one of the names mentioned, as was ex-Torino boss Giancarlo Camolese.

Menichini's side has already made a move in the transfer market by bringing in Macedonian international Goran Pandev on loan from Internazionale.

The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder and was one of the best players in Inter's youth side, having won the Italian youth championship with the club.

Pandev spent last season on loan with Serie C side Spezia to gain more senior experience and the Balkan talent will get another opportunity to add more of that experience with the Serie A newcomers.

The player's representative has signed a one-year loan deal, on Pandev's behalf, with Ancona and the youngster will join his new club on Tuesday.

The skilful player is considered one of the best footballing exports from FYR Macedonia and will likely be a future leading player in his country's full national squad.
