Venus agrees Abbey move

CAMBRIDGE UNITED boss John Taylor has agreed a one-year deal with former Ipswich Town defender Mark Venus.

The 36-year-old was due to have talks with the U's manager on Thursday and after rejecting a late approach from an unnamed Division Two club, Venus has shaken hands on a 12-month contract with the Abbey Stadium outfit.

The veteran centre half has been training with the Third Division side since last week and with Taylor keen to add a central defender to his squad, Venus is likely to fill that role for his new club.

Taylor was delighted to agree terms with Venus and looks forward to having the veteran defender in his squad.

"It's been hard work and I wasn't sure he'd come, but we're obviously delighted that he's decided to spend a year with us," Taylor told the club's official website.
