Wright quits Rangers trial
The 31-year-old only joined The Gers earlier this week for training, after snubbing a similar offer from Middlesbrough.
However, he has now returned home citing 'personal reasons' for his surprise exit.
"We spoke to his agent and he cited personal reasons for Alan's departure," Rangers boss Alex McLeish told the club's official website.
"I didn't want to pry too much so I just left things as they were. It's highly unlikely the player will return to Germany to meet up with us and we'll need to see what happens.
"I don't know if we'll bring him back and, at the moment, the whole thing is put aside.
"We will just need to watch this space.
"We'll talk when we get back because that side of things is still open but we'll need to see what happens."
