Helveg aiming for extended Inter stay

INTERNAZIONALE defender Thomas Helveg is hoping to extend his contract with the Serie A giants.

His current deal expires at the end of next season, but the Danish international is hoping to continue his stint in Milan.

"I would like to stay in the city where we have lived for five years now," revealed Helveg.

"My wife has also opened a shop here, which is going decently."

The 32-year-old is prepared to accept a cut on his current salary to clinch a new agreement with the ambitious Milanese club.

"I have actually noticed that the level on the contracts has dropped the last couple of years, but I am still getting the salary which was agreed two years ago.

"I am ready to drop a bit, if the other parts of the deal are reasonable."

The former Milan and Udinese defender is also hoping to impress coach Hector Cuper sufficiently during the pre-season to earn a place in the his starting line-up next term.

"We are going to the north of Italy for a training camp for two weeks, where I will train very seriously as always.

"I am sure that the coach will want to test those who are new in the positions we are able to play."
