Evanilson out for half a year

BORUSSIA DORTMUND will miss the services of Brazilian Evanilson for at least six months after the injury, which forced the right back to limp out of the 2-1 win over Bochum in the German Cup on Wednesday, turned out to be serious.

Evanilson, who had just recovered from another knee problem, tore the cruciate ligaments in his left knee and is set to undergo surgery at the weekend.

The news is as heavy blow for Dortmund's plans to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title and director of sport Michael Zorc has already hinted that Dortmund are now likely to turn to the transfer market again to find a replacement for their gifted South American.

The 27-year-old joined the club at the turn of the century, after leaving Cruzeiro in his homeland, and he has become a regular with the former European Cup winners.

Only hours after the news about Evanilson broke, Dortmund were dealt a second blow with the news t hat Torsten Frings suffered the same injury.

The 26-year-old German international played the full match of Dortmund's League Cup win over Bochum, but was in pain after the game, and tests later revealed that he had also torn his cruciate ligaments.

Frings will also be out for six months and the club said they were left shocked by the double blow.
