Blues go for Roux

BORDEAUX'S Frederic Roux appears to have emerged as the answer to Birmingham City's quest to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Blues boss Steve Bruce has been chasing an experienced shot-stopper to rival Ian Bennett for the number one jersey at the start of the season.

With Nico Vaesen a long-term injury casualty, Bruce does not want to be devoid of cover and has been tracking veteran Welsh international Mark Crossley.

Middlesbrough's asking price has deterred Blues from luring Crossley to St Andrews and Bruce has now settled on Bordeaux shot-stopper Roux.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer and is keen to quit Les Girondins as he is frustrated at being unable to oust Ulrich Rame as first choice.

Roux is understood to have been offered a two-year contract after Blues heeded the advice of Christophe Dugarry, who is an old team-mate of the Frenchman.

Dugarry recommended Roux as a viable alternative and Bruce is now aiming to conclude a swoop for the keeper in the coming days.
