Jevons hits back at Furneaux
Furneaux was angry that contract talks between the former Everton player and the Mariners chief had failed to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
The club are keen to reduce their wage bill and, in turn, bring the salaries of some of their highest-earners down to a more realistic level.
Jevons claims the Blundell Park club have moved the goalposts and asked him to take a 50 percent wage cut from a 30 percent cut that he initially agreed to on his contract, which has a year to run.
The striker also claims that Furneaux has now made him a scapegoat and treated him very poorly since he returned to pre-season training with the Division Two outfit.
"I had said I would take a pay cut of over a third but wanted an extra year on my existing contract and it was left like that," Jevons told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph.
"But the club came back to me saying I could have the second year but the wage cut had to be nearer 50 percent.
"I replied to all this by saying that's not what we agreed and I could not afford it!
"After all this, the chairman then came into the treatment room and started flying off the handle at me in front of the lads, the coaching staff and even the YTS lads.
"I asked him not to say anything in front of the lads and he replied he is the chairman and can do anything he wants and as he walked away, he warned me of the consequences of not agreeing - which were I couldn't play for the first team, I can't train with the first team and couldn't play reserve team football for Grimsby Town.
"He also said I wouldn't get a squad number and if I got injured I wouldn't get any treatment when I got injured.
"As he was walking out he told the kit man not to give me any kit at all.
"This has left me bewildered. We've gone from agreeing to a cut of 30 percent to a 50 percent cut now, with the chairman saying he's going to let me rot.
"I'd agreed to waive my appearance money until the transfer fee (to Everton) was paid, meaning I was paying Everton my own transfer fee!"
Meanwhile, midfielder Alan Pouton will miss the start of the new season after he underwent knee surgery to clear up an injury.
Pouton had an arthroscopy to clear up the problem and will miss at least a fortnight with The Mariners.
Should he require more surgery, Pouton would miss the kick-off on August 9 and face a spell out until around September.
