Etxeberria nears Bilbao deal

Etxeberria's present deal expires next summer and the Basque club are determined to hang on to one of their key players.

The 25-year-old has attracted admiring glances from Barcelona and Bayern Munich following his consistently impressive displays in La Liga.

The dashing winger has been happy to wait until this summer to discuss extending his stint at San Mames.

Bilbao have been thrashing out a deal with the long-serving ace and now believe they are on the cusp of securing Etxeberria's signature.

Club president Ignacio Ugartetxe confirmed everything is in place for Etxeberria to stay and wants to have the deal inked swiftly.

Ugartetxe said: "The process is open and the objective is to close the agreement with the greatest possible brevity and the negotiations have already been settled."
