McCann seals Villa switch
The Black Cats had accepted a fee of £2.25 million for McCann on Wednesday and the player had entered into negotiations at Villa Park.
The 25-year-old midfielder quickly agreed personal terms with David O'Leary's side, and completed his medical on Thursday evening.
He then penned a three-year deal with the club, with the option of a fourth year written into the contract.
McCann will fly out to Sweden on Friday to join his new team-mates as they continue their pre-season programme.
The England international had always been thought of as one of the men to leave Sunderland following their relegation and the dire financial situation at the club.
Wearside chief Mick McCarthy had indicated that McCann was about to make his way out of the Stadium of Light by handing him the number 41 shirt number.
It was soon after that a fee was agreed with Villa for the former Everton man and he has now accepted the terms offered to him by Villa.
Everton boss David Moyes had also been interested in bringing McCann back to Goodison Park, but the player has instead decided on a move to The Midlands.
McCann may not be the only man to make the trip from Sunderland down to Villa Park, as O'Leary is also in talks with Danish goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.
