Bhoys will appeal Sutton ban

CELTIC have confirmed their intention to appeal after Chris Sutton was hit with a suspension for bringing the game into disrepute.

Sutton received a one-match ban for comments he made after the final game of the SPL season when he accused Dunfermline of 'lying down' against Rangers to enable Celtic's fierce rivals to lift the title.

The Englishman was ordered to appear before the Scottish Football Association General Purposes Committee to explain his comments.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the striker was handed the one-game suspension which is allied to a four-match ban collected for the two red cards he was shown in the tunnel after The Bhoys' win over Kilmarnock on the closing day.

But Celtic have revealed they will appeal against the fresh suspension in a bid to get Sutton off the hook.

"Chris Sutton has been given an additional one-match ban," said the club's head of PR Andy Barr.

"The club is going to consider the full appeals process and will be consulting with club officials and lawyers."
