Fergie stands firm on Veron
The Argentine ace delivered a sumptuous display on Thursday night as Manchester United crushed Italian champions Juventus 4-1 in the United States.
Veron was instrumental in the superb victory but his performance was overshadowed by the continued uncertainty surrounding his Old Trafford future.
Reports persist that Veron will join moneybags Chelsea in a £15 million switch prior to the start of the new Premiership season.
United boss Ferguson has confirmed The Blues made an approach for Veron but the South American opted to stay with The Red Devils.
Yet despite Veron's commitment, rumours of a transfer to the capital will not subside, forcing Ferguson to once more affirm his intention to hang on to the enigmatic midfielder.
"People keep seeing him on this tour and still keep saying he is going," said Ferguson.
"I don't know what the hell's going on over in England, but the press boys are seeing him round the hotel and then saying he's not here!
"Unless he is going to be whisked from right under my nose they are wrong.
"Seba is a wonderful player and he was outstanding against Juventus. He's got great imagination, he's a great player."
Veron was the architect of Ruud van Nistelrooy's goal with an exquisite pass against the Turin titans and the prolific Dutchman hailed his team-mate.
"Seba was the best player on the pitch," stated van Nistelrooy. "He didn't lose the ball once, all his passes came off and the assist for my goal was absolutely brilliant.
"When he got the ball in the build-up to my goal I knew he was going to pass to me because he can play passes like that with the outside of his foot.
"There aren't many players capable of lifting the ball the way he did. Probably nobody expected it but me."
Ferguson also praised the debut performance of United States goalkeeper Tim Howard who produced a solid display against Juventus.
"Tim was superb," added Ferguson. "He showed his reflexes, his spring, his agility and his courage. It was a good debut. He's done his job."
