Emerson makes Roma pledge

ROMA star Emerson has moved again to reject speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea and reiterated his desire to stay at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Brazilian ace has been the subject of firm interest from moneybags Chelsea, but Roma have rejected all offers for the midfield general.

Chelsea's new owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, is ready to make whatever funds available to Claudio Ranieri to tempt Emerson to Stamford Bridge, but the South American insists he is happy at Roma.

"I don't like to talk about the Abramovich offer. I wear the Giallorossi jersey and I feel myself a Roma player", Emerson told Italian daily Il Messaggero.

Roma are keen to keep Emerson and have opened talks about offering him a new improved contract.

Emerson, who is away on a pre-season tour of Mexico with Roma, feels The Giallorossi can enjoy a successful season in the new campaign.

"Our one is a big team and we will be competitive for the whole season," added Emerson.

"Last year results didn't arrive because of our mentality.

"I've the conviction that we will be at the top already at the beginning of the championship."
