Okocha eyes English stay

BOLTON star Jay-Jay Okocha has revealed he wants to end his career in England.

The Nigerian wizard, who has just one-year to run on his current deal at the Reebok Stadium, admitted he would like to finish his glittering career in The Premiership.

The 29-year-old has no plans to quit England as he feels he and his family have settled well into the country after moving from Paris Saint Germain last summer.

"Hopefully I would like to finish my career in England because it's not really healthy moving your family from one place to another," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"I am trying to make this my last port of call. It's the mentality here that makes this the easiest place that I have been. It is easy for me to adapt.

"Maybe it's because we (Nigeria) are a British colonised country, I don't know."

Okocha is also confident that Bolton can build on last season's successful fight against relegation to enjoy a more successful campaign this term.

"I have really good confidence about the players we have," added Okocha. "I was surprised to see the sort of character they showed when we were struggling.

"It encourages me to look at the future and the things that can be done here.

"We have a lot of players capable of having a good season and, hopefully, we will be able to produce and help us turn things round."

Meanwhile, Okocha's team-mate Youri Djorkaeff is determined to be fit for the season opener against Manchester United despite suffering a fractured cheekbone.

The former French international sustained the injury in a collision on the club's tour of Malta last week, but he is hopeful of being available for the Old Trafford curtain-raiser and will even wear a protective mask to play.

This really is a magnificent fixture for us to start off the new season and I'm desperate to play in it," said Djorkaeff.

"Going to Old Trafford is the type of game that nobody would want to miss. I will do everything that I can in order to be back soon.

"My priority is to play and anything is possible as long as it would not be dangerous.

"It would have to be 100 percent correct. It would not matter how it looked, I'd wear it any way suitable if it means being involved in the game."
