Puyol in fresh United hint
Although both clubs insist there has been no official contact regarding a switch for the Spanish international stopper, Puyol is clearly attracted by the prospect of playing in The Premiership.
Manchester United supremo Sir Alex Ferguson insisted on Wednesday that he had completed his summer spending spree with the captures of Kleberson and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Puyol's latest declarations could convince him to test the Catalan club's resolve.
"To play in a league such as the English one and for United must be marvellous and a unique chance for any player," said the Barca star.
"I know some people who would even pay for the opportunity.
"I feel honoured simply to be linked to United. That a coach of the standing of Ferguson praises you is something to be proud of.
"Defenders are important, too. And when we have to show some balls, we do. It's the sort of attitude I would bring to United.
"I'm a versatile player for club and country - and that's why I'm an interesting prospect for coaches.
"But I'm not going to go mad. Barcelona are not playing the Champions League this season yet they are a more prestigious side than many taking part in the competition."
Barcelona have come out to state their desire to keep the 25-year-old defender, but accept that a mega-money offer for Puyol would be hard to resist.
