Chivu delight at Roma start

EXCLUSIVE
CRISTIAN CHIVU has told planetfootball of his joy at the start he has made for new team Roma, although there are suggestions that his club could be struggling to complete payment for the defender.

The Romanian star has settled in quickly with the Giallorossi since arriving from Ajax, and is delighted at the way he has been welcomed into the fold.

"I already feel at home here," enthused Chivu to planetfootball. "I did it so easily and so quickly.

"It has been a wonderful start and I already have a good relationship with Walter Samuel - we are already close.

"Francesco Totti has told me to ask if I need anything and everybody is ready to help me.

"Everyone has been so nice about me but now I want to show Serie A that they are right to praise me."

Finally Chivu gave his best wishes to Mutu - a player he knows well from the Romanian national side.

"He is now one of the best strikers in the world," said Chivu.

"He deserves a big salary and a big club - and Chelsea are certainly that."

However, Ajax are still reportedly waiting for the fee they agreed on for Chivu, and are witholding documents allowing the player to appear for Roma in competitive matches.

Roma insists that a bank has underwritten the transfer, and it seems likely a compromise will be found.
