Blackburn 5 Wolves 1

BLACKBURN got their Premiership campaign off to a flying start with a resounding 5-1 win over new boys Wolves at Ewood Park.

Lorenzo Amoruso and Brett Emerton both celebrated their debuts with goals with Andy Cole (2) and David Thompson netting the others for Rovers, while Steffen Iversen netted a consolation for the Black Country club.

Rovers opened the scoring on 17 minutes with Amoruso heading home from a corner to mark his debut with a goal.

The home side doubled the lead 12 minutes later with Thompson brilliantly volleying past Matt Murray after a neat one-two with Matt Jansen.

Star of the show Emerton got his name on the scoresheet with the third on 52 minutes to make sure of the win.

Wolves gave themselves some hope with Iversen notching on his debut firing home from close-range after his own header came back off the woodwork.

Blackburn restored their three-goal cushion after 79 minutes with Cole coming off the bench to finish off Tugay's superb pass.

The former Manchester United man then completed the rout with his second three minutes from time to make it a miserable return to the big time for Wolves and Dave Jones.
