Tait trials Lyon pair

DARLINGTON boss Mick Tait has handed trials to two French players based on the recommendation of former Quakers loanee Olivier Bernard.

The Lyon pair of defender Frederic Ribeiro and midfielder/striker Roland Vieira will appear for Darlo's reserve team season-opener at Newcastle United on Tuesday, as they look to impress the Reynolds Arena club.

Newcastle defender Bernard spent a successful loan spell with The Quakers two years ago and his knowledge of both Ribeiro and Vieira when he was at Lyon has helped Tait make the decision to cast a closer eye over the 24-year-olds.

Vieira has already spent time on loan last season with Swiss side Sion and can either play in midfield or up front while Ribeiro plays as a full back with the French champions.

"We've taken on a couple of French lads on the recommendation of Olivier Bernard," Tait told the Northern Echo.

"He knows a lot about them from playing with them in France so we'll see how they do at Newcastle."

The Quakers boss has also decided to take a second look at former Newcastle United defender Paul Dunn, who trained with the club in pre-season.

"We had a look at Paul in pre-season but he wasn't fully fit so we'll take another look at him," Tait added.
