Nakata set for Parma stay

HIDETOSHI NAKATA'S long awaited move to Lazio has fallen through, with the Japanese superstar looking set to remain with Parma.

The Japanese international had looked set to leave the Gialloblu for Roman club Lazio, but after lengthy consideration, is believed to have plumped to remain where he is.

Lazio were expecting to have a final decision on the matter on Sunday, but were not hopeful.

"We will wait a little more, but this silence isn't a good signal," Lazio's chief executive Luca Baraldi stated.

Nakata is believed to have sought and received guarantees that he will be a key figure for Parma in the coming season, as he looks to put his career on track.

Nakata emerged as one of the most promising footballers of his generation, as he arrived at Perugia and proved that players from the Far East can have a major impact in European leagues.

However, a big-money move to Roma failed to bring the blaze of glory many expected, and after snubbing The Premiership to stay in Italy with Parma, things turned even worse for Nakata.

After flattering to deceive for the Gialloblu, Nakata found his place in the side under threat, although he began to claw his way back into contention last year.

Lazio were keen to add the Japanese ace to their squad, and the huge exposure in the Japanese media that comes with him, but it appears that Nakata has plumped for the chance to resurrect himself with a familiar team.
