Toffees confirm Baz bid
Rovers had seemed favourites to land the wantaway Scottish international, but Ewood Park manager Graeme Souness has warned the SPL champions that he will not be held to ransom after having a second offer rejected.
Blackburn chief executive John Williams has insisted they are still in the running for Ferguson, but they now face stiff competition from Everton after The Toffees confirmed a bid had been submitted.
"There is nothing new," Toffees boss David Moyes told the club's website. "We have made an offer for Barry Ferguson and hopefully we will find out more in the next few days.
"He has an important game tonight and the last thing I would want to do is jeopardise his performance in that."
Everton pulled out of a deal for Fulham`s Sean Davis due to doubts over his fitness, but a move could be rekindled in January.
Moyes added: "It's a possibility. There are a lot of ifs and buts about it at the moment.
"As I have stated in the past, I just hope we can introduce some new faces before the deadline on Monday."
Claudio Reyna has also been linked with a move to Everton, as Moyes searches out midfield reinforcements, but Fulham are also keen on the Sunderland star.
