City ease into first round
Over 10,000 City fans travelled to Wales to watch their side in action, although they saw a notably different side to what the normally see in The Premiership.
Manager Kevin Keegan changed ten players in his starting XI from the side that defeated Blackburn Rovers on Monday - only Paul Bosvelt retaining his place.
The former England coach brought in the likes of Mikkel Bischoff, Willo Flood, Jonathan Macken and Christian Negouai - who opened the scoring for City just before the interval.
TNS started the game well, without making much impact on the City goal.
The Citizens almost took the lead on 33 minutes through the ever-lively Eyal Berkovic (pictured), but his free kick hit the side netting.
Martin Naylor then had a great chance for TNS, but his effort was deflected just wide by Richard Dunne.
City then pushed on and took the lead on the stroke of half time.
Negouai, who will have impressed Keegan with a bright display, pounced from just six yards as his shot found its way past Dean Williams in the home goal.
TNS's Gary Brabin almost produced one of the goals of the season early in the second half, when he spotted Nicky Weaver off his line and attempted an audacious 45 yard lob, but the former England Under-21 star moved quickly to tip the ball over.
Negouai could then have claimed a second and doubled City's lead, but he failed to meet Flood's cross cleanly and headed wide.
City did eventually grab a second when Darren Huckerby pounced to punish a tired looking TNS defence.
Flood, who worked hard throughout the game, began the move before slipping Shaun Wright-Phillips through - the midfielder continued unchallenged before squaring the ball for Huckerby, who made no mistake from six yards.
City now join fellow Premiership sides Liverpool, Newcastle United, Southampton and Blackburn Rovers in the draw for the first round on Friday.
Meanwhile, the other Welsh potential qualifier Cwmbran Town, also bowed out bravely after going down 3-0 against Maccabi Haifa in Israel.
The Welsh outfit went down 3-0 in the first leg, and goals from Yaniv Katan (36) and Giovani Rosso (46) put Maccabi on their way to another comfortable win.
Michael Zandberg completed the scoring on 63 minutes.
