Schalke eye Dani

SCHALKE have been linked with a last-minute move for former Spanish international striker Dani, who is seen as surplus to requirements at Barcelona.

The Germans are keen to sign a new striker before the transfer market closes, but moves for Real Madrid's Fernando Morientes and Chelsea's Mikael Forssell fell through this week and German daily Bild reports that Dani now features as the club's top priority.

Schalke coach Jupp Heynckes knows the Spaniard well, after spending many years of his coaching career in charge of Tenerife, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.

The coach is keen to pair the Spaniard with Danish forward Ebbe Sand up front.

The Catalan giants signed Brazilian star Ronaldinho this summer and would be ready to cut ties with Dani, who never really settled at Camp Nou.

The striker has also been linked with a move to Werder Bremen this summer - and it does appear his time at Barcelona will soon be over.
