Irureta hails Depor finishing power
The 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals by Diego Tristan and Walter Pandiani, moved the Galician outfit top of the table with two wins from two games, though Irureta acknowledged Athletic had run his charges close.
"The team (Depor) had brilliant phases, the same as Athletic Bilbao, but we were more decisive (in front of goal)," asserted Irureta.
"In the first half, as well as the goal we had two or three good chances, but Athletic had other efforts and hit the post.
"Athletic wanted to score the equalising goal in the second but did not have any clear chances, and after the second goal the game became easier for us."
The Depor boss also played down reports of an argument with Tristan after the pair exchanged words when the Spanish international striker was substituted.
"I want a lot from Tristan," explained Irureta. "But he understands that changes are made for the sake of the team, and that's what matters to the players."
