Werder lose Micoud
BUNDESLIGA table-toppers Werder Bremen have been dealt a blow with the news that playmaker Johan Micoud has broken a rib.
The French star suffered the injury during a recent friendly and is definitely out of Saturday's difficult trip to Borussia Dortmund.
Micoud was forced off 20 minutes in to Werder's 2-0 win over Dutch outfit Groningen and it turned out that the 29-year-old had broken a rib.
The midfielder has been in outstanding form and the club have admitted the loss of the former Parma man is a devastating blow.
"We have a strong team, but Johan is really the only one we can't replace," declared a devastated director of sport Klaus Allofs.
Werder will now look to nurse Micoud back to fitness in order for him to lead their Bundesliga challenge.
