Hibs hammer Montrose

HIBERNIAN showed no mercy to their Division Three opponents in the second round of the CIS Cup, as they handed out a 9-0 mauling to Montrose, but SPL sides Kilmarnock and Motherwell were sent crashing out of the competition.

The Edinburgh side have had a steady start to the season but this result could provide real momentum for the period ahead.

It was target practice for Hibs; Stephen Dobbie was the most prolific player as he netted a hat-trick in the rout.

Kilmarnock were humbled, as Division One basement boys Brechin raised their game to register a fine 1-0 win - Steven Hampshire netting the only goal on 18 minutes.

Motherwell were the other SPL team to crash out of the competition, with Forfar securing a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win.

Motherwell did superbly to force extra-time, having trailed 3-1 at one stage, but it was Forfar who held their nerve better to edge a thrilling contest.

Lee Makel scored two penalties during Livingston's 3-1 win at Queen's Park.

Jim McIntyre fired in two goals as Dundee United proved too good for Greenock Morton.

Aberdeen had a comfortable evening - with David Zdrilic netting twice in their 3-1 win over Dumbarton.
