Thomas set for Irish call

WAYNE THOMAS could be in line for an international call-up to the Republic of Ireland ranks.

The Stoke City man was born in Gloucester but would qualify through his Irish grandfather.

News of the defender's possible availability  tempted Republic of Ireland boss Brian Kerr to watch the player during his club's recent league win over Sunderland.

"We had a tip-off about Wayne's possible qualification and that's what is currently being looked into," explained national team scout Lou Macari (pictured).

"It would be unfair to raise his hopes unduly, but Brian has already been over to watch him, if he does prove eligible then he will clearly be watched in the future."
