Kahn heaps praise on Makaay
Makaay was the hero inside the Olympiastadion when his late double-strike cancelled out Alan Thompson's opener and gave Bayern a narrow 2-1 home win over Group A rivals Celtic.
His display drew special praise from Bayern skipper Kahn, with the German international goalkeeper believing Makaay is now adapting to life with the Bundesliga giants.
"I've always said that Roy needs only some more time to show his real class," declared Kahn. "It's easy to be on target if you are already leading by 5-0 or 6-0, but to score the decisive goals in a tight match is a sign of true world-class."
The é¼18.75 arrival from Deportivo La Coruna had come in for heavy criticism after he needed five games before he finally opened his account in Saturday's Bundesliga defeat at Wolfsburg, but his goals against Celtic have silenced his critics.
Bayern, who surprisingly failed to win a single Champions League match last season, looked set for further embarrassment until the Dutch striker was on target with a fine half-volley on 73 minutes before his mishit cross bizarrely found the back of the net and gave Ottmar Hitzfeld's team three valuable points.
"My team was thinking too much about last year's miserable campaign and were too afraid of Celtic's counter-attacks, so I was forced to have a go at them at half-time," admitted Hitzfeld.
"It was a massive relief for all of us that we managed to turn the game around and I have to praise Makaay as his goals made the difference. His equaliser was great as his technique while shooting was superb," beamed the coach.
