Tragedy places doubt over Sol

ARSENAL could be without Sol Campbell for Sunday's Premiership clash with Manchester United after the England star's father died.

Campbell's father suffered a stroke during the week, but the former Spurs man still managed to take the field in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat to Internazionale on Wednesday.

However, following the tragic news Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has now told Campbell to take as much time off as he needs.

"We will leave it up to him," said Wenger.

"First and foremost our thoughts and sympathy are with Sol and his family at the tragic news.

"We will wait and see how he recovers from it.

"You have to leave these decisions to the players. It can be a kind of therapy if he plays. You can get away and concentrate on something else.

"It is how everybody feels in that situation that dictates the attitude. But it will be left to Sol.

"We will respect whatever he decides to do at such a terrible time for him."

Should Campbell fail to make the trip to Manchester, then Wenger is almost certain to recall veteran Martin Keown.

The French boss could also pair Kolo Toure with Pascal Cygan, but the latter has not played this season and is unlikely to the thrown straight in against the champions.
