Soldevilla undergoes op

ESPANYOL defender Antoni Soldevilla has finally undergone an operation to repair damage to the external meniscus in his left knee.

The 24-year-old stopper had originally been scheduled to go under the surgeon's knife to repair the problem - sustained almost three months ago - on September 9.

However, the operation had to be twice postponed after firstly the player, and then his selected surgeon, fell ill with flu and pneumonia respectively.

Soldevilla has now had the surgery which was a success, but is expected to be out of action for at least two months.

"We knew the kind of problem that we were going to find and there was no problem," confirmed doctor Ramon Cugat.

Soldevilla will begin his recuperation programme next Monday with physiotherapy sessions, and is expected to begin fitness work back on the pitch in around a month.
