Fergie backs Ruud to be spot on

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has refused to discuss the fracas at the end of the Arsenal game at any length, but backed Ruud van Nistelrooy to bury his next penalty.

The Manchester United manager stressed the club are waiting for the video of the incidents that marred the goalless draw with the North Londoners last Sunday before deciding what course of action to take over the charges levelled against Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs.

However, it seems certain that the Premiership champions feel the duo have done little wrong and, indeed, acted with great restraint, in the face of some severe provocation from the likes of Martin Keown and Lauren.

"We have received the charges," stated Ferguson. "Now we are waiting for the video, which is due to arrive early next week.

"Until we see all the videos and see what substance there is to the charges, there is nothing more to say."

Yet Ferguson was more forthcoming about who will take United's next penalty after van Nistelrooy missed his third consecutive spot-kick for The Red Devils during the closing stages of the draw with Arsenal.

"He will take the next penalty," stated Ferguson. "And he will score.

"There wasn't a lot wrong with the two before. They were both excellent saves but, what encouraged me, was that he blasted it.

"Some players might have tried to place it and not put enough on their shot. He struck it with confidence, as though he really meant it.

"I don't have any worries about Ruud."
