Contra set for surgery
Atletico Madrid defender Cosmin Contra is to undergo surgery in a bid to cure his long-standing ankle injury.
The Romanian full back has yet to appear for 'Los Rojiblancos' this term after damaging tendons in his right leg on Atletico's pre-season tour of Mexico.
Contra sustained the injury in a friendly against Roma, and it was initially hoped that complete rest would be enough to repair the damage.
However, the problem has failed to respond to rest, and the former Milan star now looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines following the operation.
