Robins sign United keeper

MANCHESTER UNITED have allowed former England schoolboy goalkeeper Ben Williams to move to Altrincham on loan.

The 21-year-old has already tasted Football League action after loan spells with Coventry City and Chesterfield, but has now dropped down to the Unibond League.

The Robins are struggling near the foot of the table and boss Graham Heathcote was grateful that the Premiership champions allowed their young shot-stopper to help them out.

"I am grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for letting us take Ben because we have had horrendous problems, goalkeeper-wise," said Heathcote.

Altrincham have also bolstered their ranks by signing former Manchester City man Jason van Blerk.

The Australian has played for West Brom, Stockport and Hull and will bring a wealth of experience to Heathcote's squad.
