Perugia reveal Jay luck
Perugia have admitted they were lucky to sign Jay Bothroyd from Coventry, after snapping up the former Arsenal forward following a trial.
Club official Alessandro Gaucci revealed they needed just two days, before deciding to sign the 21-year-old on a full time contract.
Although Coventry's financial worries prevented them from retaining the youngster, Perugia were able to free-up the necessary funds to retain his wages.
"We bring selected players to Perugia. They can stay a week, but no more than three weeks," said Gaucci to 'Corriere dello Sport'.
"But those players who impress are immediately signed up. Bothroyd, for example, after two days already had a contract. We couldn't lose him.
"I have to admit that for him, we were lucky. His former side Coventry were in financial difficulties.
"Bothroyd earned about é¼150.000 a season and they wanted to offload players with high salaries.
"We saw him on tape and called him to Perugia, but 48 hours on trial was enough.
"As a free agent, we took the same contract with the same salary and we extended the deal for two years."
