Doherty heading home early

Fulham midfielder Sean Doherty has had his loan spell at Blackpool ended after the player became unhappy at his lack of first team action at the Division Two club.

The talented youngster joined the Bloomfield Road outfit just 10 days ago and had hoped to win a place in Steve McMahon's starting XI.

It had looked likely the player would be given a game in the club's LDV Vans Trophy clash with Tranmere on Tuesday night.

However, McMahon has now admitted the player has returned to Fulham and did not impress him with his attitude.

"I'm disappointed with the way things have happened," stated The Seasiders' boss to the club's official website.

"I got a phone call from Chris Coleman last Monday and I told him that I was leaving some of my lads out to accommodate Sean and he would be given a chance.

"Chris said he (Doherty) wasn't happy so he's returning to Fulham."

McMahon explained that Doherty had not been playing because of a worry over whether he was physically strong enough to play in the lower divisions.

"I've got to look after my squad and I can't just put him in when he is not ready," insisted the former Liverpool midfielder. "I just don't think he was up to it physically wise.

"He's thrown the dummy out of the cot and in that case he can go back, that's the end of the story."

He added: "I'm not going to be losing any sleep over it."
