Totti tips Italy for glory

By Nadia Carminati
Roma captain Francesco Totti has said that Italy will be one of the favourites to win Euro 2004.

Italy won their qualifying group by four points, ahead of second placed Wales.

Totti, who was part of the Italy squad that got to the European Championship final in Amsterdam in 2000, said: "We will definitely be one of the top four teams.

"Obviously, I don't know the exact group of teams that will be there in Portugal, but I'm certain that we should be there or thereabouts in the final stages of the competition.

The Azzurri had a disastrous World Cup campaign, and were knocked out by Korea in a match when Totti was sent off.

However, he is hoping a successful campaign in Portugal next year can help erase the memory. The 27-year-old said: "We are a complete group, and there are players amongst us that can make the difference, and we can raise our game easily. The European Championship can allow us to cancel out the memory of the World Cup and the previous European Championship."
