Lions to appeal Wise red card

Millwall are set to appeal against the red card handed to player-manager Dennis Wise during the club's 2-0 victory over Sheffield United at The New Den on Saturday.

Referee Rob Styles sent Wise off following his substitution in the dying stages of the match in South East London.

The former Wimbledon, Chelsea and Leicester City player was given his marching orders following his challenge on The Blades' Chris Armstrong.

However, after reviewing a video of the incident, chairman Theo Paphitis and caretaker assistant manager Ray Wilkins believed the red card should be appealed against.

"Having studied the video a number of times, Theo and Ray Wilkins are of the opinion that we have a case," Lions chief executive Ken Brown told the club's official website.

"Consequently, we will be launching an appeal to The FA about Dennis's sending off."
