Wood wants buyer identification

Boston United chairman Des Wood has demanded that a mystery consortium reveal themselves following reports of a possible takeover of the Third Division club.

The Pilgrims have been owned by the Malkinson family for the better part of 70 years, with the club in their second straight season in The Football League.

Andrew Malkinson revealed on Saturday that an unnamed buyer is interested in taking over the York Street outfit on December 31, should Wood relinquish the reins of Boston at that time.

Wood has until the end of the year to pay the Malkinson family the agreed price for the club's ground or relinquish the proxy ownership of Boston United, which was granted to him in the summer of 2002.

The Pilgrims chief wants to know who the interested buyer is following Malkinson's weekend declaration.

"All this cloak and dagger stuff isn't doing the club any good at all," Wood told the Lincolnshire Echo.

"If these backers exist, then it is time they showed themselves because this situation is creating real confusion.

"I have heard these rumours for a while now but nothing definite ever seems to happen.

"Everyone needs to know if there is any substance to these stories."

Wood has struggled to come good on his promises to build the club a new stadium, with initial planning having been turned down in early October by Boston Borough Council.

It remains to be seen if an interested party is waiting in the wings to buy The Pilgrims and where that would leave Wood and his board of directors at York Street.
