Assuncao: Betis choice right

By Patricio Figueroa
Brazilian midfielder Marcos Assuncao admits he never regrets making the move to Real Betis from Roma.

Assuncao quit The Eternal City for Seville in the summer of 2002 and has established himself as an integral performer for Betis.

His current contentment in La Liga is in stark contrast to his spell in Serie A when he found himself in and out of the Roma team.

The 27-year-old is confident he has adapted his style of play to suit Betis and admits he does not have any second thoughts about leaving Roma.

"I am totally adapted to Spanish football," said Assuncao. "The decision to transfer from Roma to Betis has been the correct one because in Italy I wasn't playing and in Betis I feel I am useful for the team.

"I have had the luck to score some goals from free kicks and I am very pleased about that. I also think that I am having a good performance as a midfielder."

Assuncao also hopes that now he is firmly established at Betis, it will lead to a recall to the Brazilian national team.

He added: "All the players dream of the chance to play for their national team.

"The fact that I am playing frequently for Betis will help me to return to the national team."
