Tolley released by Posh

Peterborough United have announced that they have cancelled the contract of striker Shane Tolley by mutual consent.

The Devon-born hit-man was deemed surplus to requirements after manager Barry Fry (pictured) conceded that the forward would not get a look-in at first-tem level.

Tolley once scored 20 goals at youth team level for Posh, but has found it hard to hold down a regular place in the reserves.

"We have cancelled the contract of Shane by mutual consent so he can go and purse his football career at another club," Fry told the official website.

"He hasn't really had a chance and unfortunately he wasn't going to be given an opportunity as we have a few good strikers at the club.

"He has not been getting a regular place in the team and at his age, it is important that he gets football week-in week-out.

"I would like to thank him for his service and wish him well in the future."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Luke McShane will be sidelined for two weeks after an X-ray showed he had bruised his elbow.
