Ifil extends Hornets deal

Watford defender Jerel Ifil is to extend his stay at Vicarage Road by signing a new contract until the summer of 2006.

The highly-rated stopper has impressed on two loan spells with Second Division side Swindon Town which saw the Wiltshire club enjoy an unbeaten run during his six games on-loan in his second spell earlier this season.

Hornets boss Ray Lewington told the club's official website he was pleased to have signed Ifil for a prolonged period, but said there are still areas the player can improve in.

"In terms of physical capabilities, Jerel's got tremendous power and pace," opined Lewington.

"It's his positional play which lets him down occasionally.

"We've been patient with him because we feel he's a late developer. His attitude is fantastic, he wants to learn.

"When he does put all the parts of his game together, I feel he's going to be a very good player."
