Werder keeping tabs on Pasanen

Werder Bremen have trained their sights on Ajax's Petri Pasanen as a potential defensive recruit.

The Bundesliga outfit are scouring the market for a replacement for Mladen Krstajic, who is set to join Schalke next summer, and Pasanen has caught the eye both domestically and in Europe.

Pasanen has established himself as a first team regular under Ronald Koeman, having arrived at the club in 2000 from Finnish side Lahti.

The defender has a further 18 months to run on his contract, but talks over a new deal have not yet resulted in an agreement.

Werder are said to be monitoring the player's situation and could step in with an offer next summer.

Koeman is clearly a fan of Pasanen, but could be tempted into a sale if no new contract is agreed.
