Gers want MacLean back
Iron boss Brian Laws was hoping to extend the 21-year-old's loan beyond its December deadline but Gers manager Alex McLeish wants him to return to Ibrox.
His 13 goals this season for the Glanford Park club have prompted Rangers to consider a call back of the player, in order to give them extra striking options.
"We wouldn't put a player out on loan and not keep tabs on him, so we have had him watched down there," said McLeish.
"At first, he was suffering from homesickness and was on the bench, but we said what is the point in giving you (Scunthorpe) a player on loan if he doesn't play?
"Once he started playing, he started firing in the goals, so to send him there on loan was the right thing to do for Steven and for Rangers.
"I'm sure they would want to keep him there longer and we have had other enquiries about taking him until the end of the season, but I think we will be taking him back here to give us another option."
