Juventus coach Marcello Lippi insists that Paolo Maldini deserves the Ballon d'Or this season - but believes the accolade will go to someone else.
Speaking exclusively to skysports.com Lippi admitted that he thought Maldini's glittering career should be awarded with the France Football award for the best player of the year.
"Maldini deserves to get the prize," said Lippi. "Not only for the excellent player that his is but also for being an extraordinary man.
"His human qualities, in my opinion, have helped him to build his reputation throughout the world over the past 15 years.
"In the past Franco Baresi was denied this award.
"I am afraid the poll will not be based on the player's career but on the matches this year."
