Cobblers make Lyttle signing

Northampton Town have signed former Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion defender Des Lyttle on non-contracts terms at The Sixfields Stadium.

The 32-year-old has been on the lookout for a new club following his release from The Hawthorns at the end of last season, having failed with recent trial spells at Division Two clubs Blackpool and Chesterfield.

Lyttle will be available to make his debut for Colin Calderwood's side on Tuesday evening, when they visit Conference leaders Hereford United in the LDV Vans Trophy.

The full back is happy to have linked up with The Cobblers after several months without a club.

"It's just good to be back in the thick of things playing football," Lyttle told the club's official website.

"I finished with West Brom at the end of last season and this season I have been training with Sheffield Wednesday, Blackpool and a few other clubs but with the state of football at the moment, it has been difficult.

"I played at Sixfields before a few years ago with Nottingham Forest when the ground had only just opened.

"The club has a decent set up and hopefully, I can help us get into, at least, the play-offs.

"I have played at this level before with Swansea, so I do know what it's about.

"I just want to be out there playing football."
