Fernandez in dark over 'Little Buddha'

Espanyol's new coach Luis Fernandez has stated he is unaware of the rumours that experienced midfielder Ivan De La Pena could be joining the club.

Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao left the Barcelona-based outfit bottom of La Liga, but Fernandez is keen to assess his squad before making signings.

De La Pena, formerly of Barcelona and Lazio, is currently without a club, but did undertake a week's trial with Celtic in August.

Fernandez knows of the player's availability, but his shortness of fitness due to lack of matches is a concern for the former Paris Saint Germain coach.

"Firstly it is important to evaluate the squad, but regarding Ivan I do not know anything," explained Fernandez.

"He's not played for three or four months and would need time to get fit, at least a month."
