Owen: We've missed Didi

Michael Owen says that Dietmar Hamann's return to Liverpool's engine room cannot come soon enough.

The German international has made just one substitute appearance for The Reds in the Carling Cup this term since undergoing a second shin operation back in July.

The Anfield side are a massive 15 points off Premiership pace-setters Arsenal after just 13 games and England international Owen feels Hamann can play a big part in a resurgence in the side.

"Didi's been a massive loss for us this season," Owen told the club's official website.

"I don't think there are many better holding midfielders in the world than Didi.

"I'm looking forward to having him fit and back in the team again, and so is everyone from the coaching staff and management.

"He's a fantastic player for us."

Owen also told how Jamie Carragher's absence from the side with a broken leg was a massive blow to the team both on and off the field.

"We probably miss his buzz in the dressing room," he added.  "He's always lively and keeps everyone on their toes."
